In August 2013, the 9/11 Memorial held a ceremony to recognize the bravery of Medal of Honor recipient Army Staff Sgt. Ty Carter. Carter was presented with an American flag that was erected at the Memorial. Recently, Director of the 9/11 Memorial Museum Alice Greenwald received a thank you note from Carter where he states the flag “reminds me why I am a soldier and that our freedom is a blessing to be protected, and cherished – not taken for granted.”
