Museum Oral History Captures Spirit of #Tribute2983 Campaign
Every day, Paige Farley-Hackel of Newton, Mass., would list five things she was thankful for in her life.
“She would list mangoes. She loved mangoes, so mangoes were on her gratitude list. Lazy days, blue jays, white clouds, God’s grace. In fact, we have a housekeeper named Theresa, and she would often list her,” reflected her husband Allan Hackel in a 9/11 Memorial Museum-recorded remembrance, via StoryCorps. “The happiest moments were her smile, the way she got excited about everything.”
The remembrance is part of the Museum’s collection as an oral history.
Farley-Hackel, 46, was a passenger on Flight 11, which crashed into the North Tower on September 11, 2001.
Farley-Hackel’s ritual of embracing gratitude each day, no matter how simple the source, embodies the spirit of the #Tribute2983 campaign, which the National September 11 Memorial & Museum began this year.
“It underscores the habits of generosity that defined so many who died on 9/11 and inspires ongoing acts of kindness as a form of tribute to those we memorialize,” 9/11 Memorial Museum Chief Curator Jan Seidler Ramirez said.

While in New York this week for the Pinstripe Bowl, two college football teams – the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Boston College Eagles – honored the victims of 9/11 at the memorial and museum.
