The 9/11 Memorial Museum has welcomed more than 5 million visitors since opening, but some New Yorkers are reluctant to visit the site. The 9/11 Memorial & Museum invited a number of New Yorkers to take a tour of the museum and captured their experience. The resulting video tells a very common narrative where New Yorkers who were hesitant to visit the museum are overwhelmed by their experience and the significance of visiting the site.
The 9/11 Memorial Museum is calling on New Yorkers to visit and share their story. Our City. Our Story. is a collection of stories of resilience and hope surrounding 9/11, as told today by New Yorkers. These stories are relevant to everyone – no matter where you are from or where you live.
In this video, David M. from Midtown East, Manhattan, shares how his experience changed his view of visiting the museum.
“I walked in here blasé and jaded and said, ‘There’s no way that I want to go here again. Why would I come here and see it again?’ I’m absolutely wrong about that. I know I want to come back,” he said.
