5K Run/Walk & Community Day

Thousands joined together in lower Manhattan on Sunday, April 28, for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s seventh annual 5K Run/Walk and Community Day. The event, presented by RXR, supports the construction of the 9/11 Memorial Glade and honors and commemorates the nearly 3,000 men, women and children who died on 9/11.

People of all ages and speeds gathered at the Brookfield Start Line at the North Cove Marina before looping through scenic Battery Park and finishing at the foot of the World Trade Center site. After the race, the streets surrounding the 9/11 Memorial were packed for the Westfield-sponsored Community Day, which featured food, live music and activities.

Many participated in a Stars of HOPE artmaking activity during Community Day, where individuals were encouraged to paint a special message for rescue and recovery workers. The stars lined the fence that currently wreaths the 9/11 Memorial Glade, which is set to open to the public on May 30.

See below for photos and more details from this year’s race and Community Day, and join us next year to run or walk in support of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
