9/11 Memorial Museum Opens

September 11, 2014

Letter by 9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels on the 9/11 Memorial Museum Opening

Dear Friends,

Throughout the 9/11 Memorial Museum's dedication period, which formally ended yesterday, we have welcomed tens of thousands of 9/11 family members, 9/11 rescue and recovery workers, active duty first responders, 9/11 survivors, and members of the lower Manhattan community to preview the Museum. And today, we open our doors to the world.

This historic day will begin with a ceremonial presentation of The National 9/11 Flag by the New York Says Thank You Foundation. Nearly destroyed in the aftermath of the attacks on 9/11, this flag has been stitched back together with the same spirit of unity and hope that has rebuilt the World Trade Center. The flag has traveled across the country, to all 50 states, on a tour where thousands of people each offered a stitch in solidarity. In honor of our public opening, The National 9/11 Flag will return to the World Trade Center and enter into the Museum's permanent collection as living testament to the resilience of the American people.

I sincerely hope you will visit the Museum and be a part of its historic first year. Whether you have a ticket for our sold-out opening day, generously presented by Condé Nast, or choose to visit in the weeks to come, we look forward to sharing it with you. This Museum is one every American should visit. To schedule a visit, please go to www.911memorial.org.

Warm regards,

Joe Daniels
