The All-Ages Community Day Will Follow the 9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk
In just a few weeks, thousands will gather in downtown Manhattan for the seventh annual 5K Run/Walk and Community Day. The event provides us with a chance to come together, not only to remember the victims of 9/11 and honor those who risked their lives, but also to celebrate how far our city has come.
This year, the 5K Run/Walk supports the 9/11 Memorial Glade, an evolution of the 9/11 Memorial that will honor all who were injured, sick or died due to a 9/11 related illness. The Glade is set to be dedicated on May 30, the anniversary of the end of the rescue and recovery period at Ground Zero.
Join friends, families and neighbors on April 28 to represent the resilience of the city that we love. The route begins in lower Manhattan and takes participants through scenic Battery Park with iconic views of One World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty.
Once you cross the finish line, join us for Community Day, a free event open to the public that features activities and entertainment for all. Music, games, food and more will be available from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Learn about fire safety with the FDNY, brave new heights and climb the NYPD Rock Wall, or get crafty with Stars of HOPE and paint a special message for rescue and recovery workers. The stars will hang on the fencing near the 9/11 Memorial Glade and will be given to the men and women the Glade honors.
