"This special event will help fulfill the promise to never forget the men, women and children taken from us too soon," 9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels said "Having Jon Stewart, a dedicated 9/11 Memorial board member be a part of the Run/Walk, is tremendous."
"As a resident of lower Manhattan, I remember how we all came together after the 2001 attacks to recover, rebuild and remember. Let's come together again for the 5K Run/Walk to encourage public service and to support the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Get out there and run, walk, serve," 5K Honorary Chairman Jon Stewart said.
April 21 - the day of the event - marks the anniversary of the date President Barack Obama signed into law the 2009 Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act that designates September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
