Jon Stewart Named Honorary Chair of 5K Run/Walk

Jon Stewart Chairs the Memorial 5K Run/Walk

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum announced today that "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart will serve as the honorary chairman of the first 9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk and Family Day. The event is Sunday, April 21, 2013 in lower Manhattan. It is intended to encourage public service in honor of the victims of 9/11 and support the Memorial and Museum. Learn more and register now at

"This special event will help fulfill the promise to never forget the men, women and children taken from us too soon," 9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels said "Having Jon Stewart, a dedicated 9/11 Memorial board member be a part of the Run/Walk, is tremendous."

"As a resident of lower Manhattan, I remember how we all came together after the 2001 attacks to recover, rebuild and remember. Let's come together again for the 5K Run/Walk to encourage public service and to support the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. April 21 - the day of the event - marks the anniversary of the date President Barack Obama signed into law the 2009 Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act that designates September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
