Make Music New York Returns to the 9/11 Memorial Plaza

On Friday, June 21, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will participate in its fifth annual Make Music New York (MMNY) event. Make Music Day, which takes place annually in more than 50 U.S. cities and 120 countries, happens on the summer solstice each year. Through organizing free concerts and collaborative performances, MMNY encourages people to celebrate their inner musicians.

In honor of the day, bagpipers will perform on the 9/11 Memorial plaza at 12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. The bagpipers, comprised of players from the New York Police Department (NYPD), the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD), the New York City Sanitation Department (DSNY) and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOC), will begin at the corner of Greenwich and Liberty streets, moving throughout the plaza before ending at the 9/11 Memorial Glade.

A trio of bagpipers from the NYPD, FDNY and PAPD also performs every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Foundation Hall.

MMNY, which was established in 2007, is an annual musical celebration that includes more than 1,200 free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City. For more information, please visit www.makemusicny.org.
