On June 24, a senior member of the United States Special Forces will join Clifford Chanin, 9/11 Memorial Vice-President for Education and Public Programs, in conversation about the unique challenges of fighting terrorism in the next talk in the Heart of the Matter series. The Special Forces expert, whose name cannot be revealed due to security considerations, will focus on the role of special military operations in diverse areas, including Iraq and Afghanistan.

This discussion builds off of previous talks in The Heart of the Matter series where Bernard Haykel, Professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University, talked about the origins of Islamist extremism and the roots of ISIS in the region.

The senior member of the U.S. Special Forces will join Chanin in the 9/11 Memorial Museum Auditorium on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Admission is free, but advance registration is required. Register here. For more information, please email publicprograms@911memorial.org. Submit your questions for the speaker prior to the event on social media using the hashtag #911MuseumTalk.

The Heart of the Matter is the 9/11 Memorial Museum’s ongoing series of live talks with guest experts exploring current events in the Middle East and post-9/11 security issues.

The series will continue in the fall with a new slate of guest experts and topics. More details to follow.
