Before she was installed at the 9/11 Memorial Museum, the artifact known as Lady Liberty had a layered story. After the Statue of Liberty replica appeared outside of a midtown firehouse and evolved into a collective memorial tribute, she was featured as the centerpiece of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s 9/11 exhibition, and was placed on view in three different locations before her final 2014 move to the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

Visitors to the museum will be able to hear Jason Nolan, a senior interpretive guide, relate Lady Liberty’s full story on Nov. 18 at noon in the museum’s auditorium as a part of an ongoing live talk series called “The Stories They Tell.” Every weekday, an experienced curator, education or exhibitions staff member gives a 15-minute presentation on one element of the museum, its exhibitions, or one of the artifacts in the museum’s vast collection.

The series gives the visitors the benefit of personal insights from staff members who are experts on the exhibitions and artifacts, offering a more in-depth look inside the museum.

The topics are varied and current talks range in focus from conserving the Last Column, a history of the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, stories behind Flight 93 and more. Visit our calendar to learn more about regular and special public programs.
