Preserving the history of 9/11 is both an honor and a challenge for those of us who work at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. As assistant exhibition media curator, part of my job is to gather photographs, video and other media to document that history.
And I need your help.
On the 10th anniversary, victims’ family members were welcomed to the dedicated opening of the 9/11 Memorial, where for the first time they were able to touch their loved ones' names inscribed in bronze. The world looked once again to lower Manhattan, but this time the site had transformed from a site of unimaginable destruction to one of honor and remembrance. It was by far the most amazing day I have experienced in my four years at the memorial, and I am honored to have been able to witness it in person.
To help protect the memory of that day, we are asking for your photographs, video and audio of the Memorial and the Tribute in Light from Sept. 11, 2011. We want the materials for our archive and possibly to include in the museum’s historical exhibition. If you were taking pictures or recording video, especially of the Tribute in Light, please call (212) 312-8791 or email sjoseph@911memorial.org. We would love to see them.
