The first phase of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub will open to the public today at 3 p.m.

In a press release issued by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the hub, known as the ‘Oculus’ provides "an enhanced commuter experience for PATH riders traveling to and from Wall Street and other New York City destinations, as well as those who live in and visit the downtown area."

An opening ceremony is planned for this spring as the Oculus becomes fully operational. Once entirely open, the transportation hub will link to the MTA's Fulton Center and 11 New York City subway lines.

"Lower Manhattan soon will have an architecturally visionary 21st century rail station, combined with world-class retail shops, that will be a focal point for downtown commerce," said Port Authority Vice Chairman Scott Rechler.
