Memory and Memorialization

Francesc Torres is an artist whose work has been exhibited in the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Reina Sofia in Madrid. He has also been the Chair for Spanish Culture and Civilization at the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center at New York University. He was commissioned by the National September 11 Memorial & Museum (9/11 Memorial) to photograph the artifacts salvaged from the World Trade Center site after the 9/11 attacks that have been housed at Hangar 17 since 2002. The resulting exhibition, Memory Remains, at the Imperial War Museum in London, the International Center of Photography in New York and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània in Barcelona, and the Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid, in commemoration of opening of the Memorial on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
