Last week, we welcomed U.S. Secret Service K-9 Hurricane and his handler Uniformed Division Officer-Technician Marshall J. Mirarchi to the 9/11 Memorial before being honored by Animal Medical Center of New York at their annual TOP DOG Gala. The 7-1/2-year-old all-black Belgian Malinois and Mirarchi were on the frontlines of protecting the president of the United States, the vice president, their families and visiting dignitaries. In recognition for their efforts in apprehending an individual who had jumped the White House fence in 2014, they were awarded with the Secretary’s Award for Valor by Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Jeh Johnson. Earlier this year, Hurricane officially retired just days after the 15th anniversary of 9/11.
