Drone expert Brett Velicovich spoke at the 9/11 Memorial Museum on Tuesday night about his experience in U.S. Army intelligence and his advocacy work.

In a wide-ranging conversation, Velicovich discussed the complexity of conducting drone operations; his new book, “Drone Warrior: An Elite Soldier's Inside Account of the Hunt for America's Most Dangerous Enemies”; and his work with the African Eye Project, which uses drone technology to assist in conservation initiatives and anti-poaching efforts.

In the clip below, Velicovich discusses common misconceptions about drone warfare.

“With drone technology, we can actually see who that is. We can see them from different angles. We can make a conscious decision whether or not this person should be captured or they should be killed. And I think a lot of times there is this narrative that exists that technology takes you away from the fight, but I think on the contrary… I mean, you’re seeing more than you would have ever seen normally when going after some of these individuals that we hunted down.”
