Everyone reacted to the news of Osama bin Laden’s death differently. Some rejoiced privately in their homes. Some celebrated as they crowded streets surrounding the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan. Many turned the page on a personal and painful story.

And then there were Local Union 40 iron workers Dennis Byrnes, Nicholas Barbato and Justin Coffman. They punctuated this historic moment by topping the entry pavilion for the 9/11 Memorial Museum at the WTC site with a “Flag of Honor.”

The “Flag of Honor” and “Flag of Heroes” was created by John Michelotti in response to the 9/11 attacks. The star-spangled banners honors the 9/11 victims and heroes.

“Together these flags give the families, friends, all of America and the world symbols that will forever memorialize, individually, the men, women and children that were lost that dreadful day,” Michelotti says.
