Charles Fazzino was on site last week for a special ceremony unveiling a new commemorative 3-D pop art piece he created especially for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. The piece - entitled "9/11: A Time for Remembrance, Twenty Years Later" - depicts the Twin Towers set against the kind of vibrant, detailed background for which Fazzino is known.

The original artwork took more than six months to create. Fazzino first printed it using a fine art giclee process on archival rag paper. Individual pieces were then cut, glued, assembled, and embellished by hand.

Also in attendance at the unveiling were iconic New Yorkers including New York Mets All-Star Pete Alonso; New York Yankees great Bernie Williams; former New York Mets owner Jeff Wilpon; former NYPD Chief Joseph Esposito; and former NYPD Commissioner Salvatore Cassano.

Museum President and CEO Alice M. Greenwald opened the ceremony, which took place in the atrium, with remarks about the power of art amid profound tragedy.

"Whatever the medium or the maker, works of art provided an essential sense of hope and inspiration at a time when we needed them most. Charles' latest piece does just that - at a moment when our city is, once again, coming out the other side of yet another challenging time. This is also a work that invites us to look closely and give ourselves over to both remembrance and affirmation ... celebrating the resiliency that New York, and New Yorkers, are known for," she said.

The 3-D artwork itself is on display at the Museum, and is available for purchase exclusively from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum Store. Also available are items including a tote bag, a commemorative mug, and more. Net proceeds from the sale of these pieces will benefit the Museum and its mission.
