Betty & Dennis Nielsen’s Story: Offering Quilts of Comfort

Inspired on the evening of September 11, 2001 by deeply held patriotic and religious feelings, as well as compassion for the families who had lost loved ones, Betty came to believe that she might offer them some measure of comfort through quilts that she could make in honor of those who were killed. In 2007, Betty donated "War Paint," to the Memorial Museum, one of the first of thousands of Freedom Quilts that she and a widening circle of friends made over the next few years. Listen to Betty and her husband Dennis describe the beginnings of this compassionate endeavor.
