South Carolina School Banner

One of many collaborative projects sent to comfort New Yorkers in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, this colorful banner was painted on a 12-foot cloth by elementary school children in South Carolina. It brightened the walls of the children’s play area of the 9/11 Family Assistance Center. The banner was donated to the Museum by Lawrence Knafo, First Deputy Commissioner with the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications, who provided technological support to the Family Assistance Center.

Mural created by the Lower School Art Students of Porter Gaud School in Charleston, South Carolina in Mrs. Laura Orvin's Art Class for the people of New York. Gift of Lawrence Knafo.
