On Thursday, May 16, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will host a public program featuring Emmy Award–winning documentary filmmaker and activist Deeyah Khan, who will discuss her filmmaking and her quest to understand what draws people to extremist ideologies.
May 21 marks the fifth anniversary of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
Last week the 9/11 Memorial Museum hosted a panel discussion about the Museum’s slurry wall, a retaining wall built in the late 1960s to hold back the waters of the Hudson River. The wall is a marvel of civil engineering that remains intact as part of the Museum’s Foundation Hall and has become a symbol of endurance and human resolve.
Four different cards will be in circulation, featuring photos of rescue and recovery workers at Ground Zero taken by FEMA photographer Andrea Booher. The stories of the individuals featured on the cards illustrate the immense scale of the response, pulling in people from all over the country to aid in the rescue, recovery and relief efforts following the attacks.
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum will host commemorative activities in recognition of the 17th anniversary of the end of the historic rescue, recovery and relief efforts at Ground Zero.
This year’s webinar, which will be available on-demand starting Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, will feature personal reflections from survivors, family members and others who were there that day.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Washington, D.C.–based lawyer Frank Razzano was in his room at the World Trade Center Marriott Hotel, situated between the Twin Towers. Razzano was awoken by the sound of Flight 11 striking the North Tower. Seeing fluttering papers, but not realizing the scale of the emergency, he decided to take a shower and continue getting ready for his busy day.
