Virginia S. Bauer is the chief executive officer of GTBM Inc. located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, a position she has held since 2010.
GTBM Inc. is a security technology company that develops and markets proprietary software solutions. The market is focused to serve all network and technology needs for law enforcement and municipalities. GTBM also has proprietary solutions that enable federal government facilities and critical infrastructures to real-time credential verification.
Prior to her role at GTBM, Bauer had served in government for the State of New Jersey. In 2003, she was appointed director of the New Jersey Lottery. As director, she implemented many changes which resulted in one of the lottery’s most successful years.
In 2004, she was appointed commerce secretary for the State of New Jersey and served for three administrations. Her role as commerce secretary was to be the primary business advocate, promoting small and large businesses, and helping navigate them through state department and commissions. This included international trade, tourism, and the Urban Enterprise Zone. During this tenure, she represented the State of New Jersey as vice chair of the Redevelopment Authority for Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.
In 2007 Bauer was appointed by Governor Corzine to serve on the Board of Commissioners for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. The Board of Commissioners establishes the policies of the Port Authority for the bi-state agency, overseeing the management and infrastructure of the bridges, tunnels, airports, and ports of New York and New Jersey as well as the redevelopment of the World Trade Center.
Her involvement in government was a result of 9/11 when her husband David Bauer was killed at the World Trade Center.
She immediately became an advocate for the 9/11 families, initiating federal tax legislation that helped the families and was at the forefront of the creation of the 9/11 Commission. That passion has continued, as she is a trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
Bauer was one of the first family members to be on the advisory board of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp established right after 9/11.
She is a founding member of New Start New Jersey, which studies policy initiatives for New Jersey’s economic interest.
She is a member of the New York Economic Club and has also served on many nonprofit organizations in her community, such as Monmouth Medical Center, The Peddie School, and Monmouth University.
In 2018, Bauer was appointed as a director of Newmark Group, Inc. Newmark Group, Inc. is a publicly traded company operating a commercial real estate business that offers a full suite of services and products for owners and occupiers.
She was the recipient of many honors and awards during her tenure in government and her active community service, from namely her alma mater, Rosemont College, and the New Jersey Business and Industry Association.
She is the mother of three children—David, Stephen, and Jacqueline—who are all grown and living in the New York City area.
She is remarried to Donald Steckroth, a retired federal bankruptcy judge, and they live in Red Bank, New Jersey.
