Jon Stewart Urges 9/11 Responders and Survivors to Sign Up for Zadroga Act Benefits

Jon Stewart, 9/11 Memorial & Museum board member and first responder advocate, hosted a Facebook Live event from the museum on Sunday to urge an additional 30,000 eligible 9/11 responders and survivors to enroll in the World Trade Center Health Program. About 75,000 are currently enrolled.

The program currently offers free health screening and monitoring and provides health care and compensation to responders and survivors who developed 9/11-related illness and injuries. Benefits are available to responders to the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pa., and nearby residents, students and workers who may have been exposed to toxins and other hazards at the attack sites.

Sunday marked the one-year anniversary of the reauthorization of the James Zadroga 9/11 Compensation Act that extended health care and compensation benefits to responders until 2090.

Stewart spoke with responders John Feal, founder of the FealGood Foundation, and retired NYPD and FDNY responders and Dr. James Melius, a doctor with the 9/11 Health Watch, the organization that hosted the livestream.
