A son of Irish immigrants, Damian Meehan played Gaelic football since childhood. He was a fullback on the team at Good Shepherd School in Manhattan and later joined the Gaelic Athletic Association’s New York division. He competed on the team for Donegal, his parents’ native county in Ireland. This medal, emblazoned with the league’s name in Gaelic, commemorates the All-Star team on which Damian played in 1997.
Raised in Manhattan’s Inwood neighborhood, in 2001 Meehan lived in Glen Rock, N.J., with his wife, Joann, who was pregnant at the time, and their young son. Always athletic, Damian often attempted to recruit at least one of his nine siblings to compete with him in races or to play a round of golf.
Damian worked as a trader at Carr Futures. On September 11, he was in his office on the North Tower’s 92nd floor. He was 32 years old.
