This week, Jack and Jennifer McNamara, the son and wife of the late FDNY firefighter John McNamara, laid some of the final cobblestones on the 9/11 Memorial Glade.

In 2009, John McNamara died from 9/11-related cancer at the age of 44. In John’s honor, his family has advocated for funding for first responders who continue to suffer from illnesses stemming from exposure to toxins in the aftermath of the attacks. A photograph of nine-year-old Jack McNamara at a rally for the reauthorization of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act in 2015 is currently on view in the Museum’s historical exhibition.

The Memorial Glade, which will be dedicated on May 30, will honor all who have died or are suffering from 9/11-related illness.
