Howard W. Lutnick is Chairman and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, L.P. a leading global financial services firm in the equity and fixed income capital markets. A preeminent independent middle market investment bank, Cantor Fitzgerald is also recognized for its newer, innovative businesses in areas such as gaming, e-commerce and commercial real estate financing.
Mr. Lutnick is also Chairman and CEO of BGC Partners, Inc., a leading global brokerage company primarily servicing the wholesale financial and property markets. BGC conducts over $200 trillion in financial transactions for customers annually in its financial brokerage and commercial real estate business. Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, now a part of BGC and one of the largest commercial real estate service firms in the U.S., is a leading full-service commercial real estate firm providing leasing, corporate advisory, investment sales and capital marketing services as well as property and facilities management.
Mr. Lutnick guided the rebuilding of Cantor following the devastating September 11, 2001 World Trade Center terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of 658 of the firm’s 960 New York-based employees. Since then, Cantor has provided over $180 million to help the families of the firm’s colleagues who perished. Each year on their annual Charity Day, Cantor and BGC donate their entire global revenues to charitable causes, commemorating their employees who perished on 9/11 by reaching out to help others.
Mr. Lutnick graduated from Haverford College in 1983 with a degree in economics and joined Cantor Fitzgerald the same year. He was named President and CEO in 1991 and Chairman in 1996. He is a member of the boards of National September 11 Memorial & Museum, Haverford College, the Zachary and Elizabeth M. Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Disease Research at Rockefeller University, Intrepid Museum Foundation, the Solomon Guggenheim Museum Foundation, and The Partnership for New York City. Mr. Lutnick received the Department of the Navy's Distinguished Public Service Award, the highest honor granted by the Navy to non-military personnel. Mr. Lutnick and his wife Allison have four children.
