THOUSANDS SET TO RETRACE RESPONDERS’ PATH TO GROUND ZERO AT 13th ANNUAL 9/11 MEMORIAL & MUSEUM 5K RUN/WALK PRESENTED BY RXR
NEW YORK – On April 27, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will host its 13th annual 5K Run/Walk, presented by RXR. The three-mile race retraces the steps that many first responders and rescue and recovery workers took to access Ground Zero on 9/11 and in the weeks and months following the attacks. Before the race begins, participants will hear inspiring stories of service, compassion, and unity that defined our city’s response to 9/11 and honor the 2,977 men, women, and children killed more than 23 years ago. The event welcomes participants of all ages and places with special emphasis on sharing the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s mission with a new generation too young to remember that tragic day. All funds raised will help keep the 9/11 Memorial free to the public, while also supporting the Museum’s educational programs.
“Once again thousands of New Yorkers and others from around the tristate area and across the U.S. will take part in this race not only commemorating the lives lost on 9/11, but also reaffirming the service and unity that defined our collective response to the attacks,” said Beth Hillman, President and CEO of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. “At this year’s 5K, we’re especially proud to spotlight a new tri-state education campaign, which provides free in-person and virtual access to the Museum for educators and students in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. With 100 million Americans born since 9/11 or too young to remember it, our mission to educate and engage the next generation has never been more essential.”
“On 9/11 I lost my cousin Michael D’Auria, who was just 25 years old, when his FDNY company, Engine 40, responded to the World Trade Center,” said 9/11 Visionary Network 5K Chair Rob Perretta. “At this year’s 5K, we will once again follow the path first responders like my cousin Michael took on September 11, 2001. Participation in this race supports the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s ongoing efforts to commemorate, educate, inspire, and ensure future generations never forget the legacy of 9/11. It is an incredibly meaningful experience, unique to New York and connecting thousands to the essential history of our city.”
For over a decade, RXR has served as the presenting sponsor of the 5K, playing a lead role in helping grow this event and reaffirming the resilience of New York City. RXR is joined by many other sponsors including Fiserv, Brookfield, and Spotify.
“RXR is honored to support this meaningful event that unites our community,” said Scott Rechler, CEO and Chairman of RXR. “Nearly a quarter of a century after the events of that fateful day, this tribute stands as a powerful symbol of resilience and remembrance. Walking or running the same path taken by first responders and volunteers on September 11th creates a deeply personal connection to their courage and sacrifice. We applaud all participants joining us this year, along with our fellow sponsors, whose commitment to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum helps ensure we never forget.”
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is proud to welcome first-time sponsor Spotify to this year’s annual 5K Run/Walk, adding an exciting new rhythm to the day’s events. Participants will kick off the race energized by live music from DJ Love Language at Spotify’s DJ booth, alongside an empowering warm-up led by beloved Peloton Instructor and emcee Ally Love. The celebration continues at the finish line experience that includes a kid's village featuring family-friendly festivities, music from DJ Annie, food, games, giveaways, and complimentary admission to the 9/11 Memorial Museum. To keep the momentum going before, during, and after the race, attendees can tune into the event’s official Spotify playlist—curated to inspire, uplift, and unite participants and supporters alike.
"Spotify is proud to call 4 World Trade Center our NYC home. As part of this community, we recognize the profound responsibility to honor the history of our location — not just in September, but year-round. This year, we are thrilled to support the 9/11 Memorial & Museum 5K with activations that will energize and inspire participants, ensuring the spirit of resilience and community continues to propel us all forward, " says Dustee Jenkins, Chief Public Affairs Officer at Spotify.
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and the fundraising goal for this year’s event is $600,000. We invite individuals and teams to register by Friday, April 25, and be part of this powerful day of unity and purpose. For those unable to join us in person, virtual donation options are available as well. Registration starts at $55 for walkers and $65 for runners. Children under 12 participate free.
