Blue to Black

Today I watched as someone died.

Someone, some two, some three, some four,

Some five, some six, sum many more.

Thousands in totality.

Punched a hole through my reality.

While some did instantly incinerate.

Others leapt towards heaven’s gate.

They could not fly.

Forced to fall.

Others made one last call.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

Echo in a loved one’s ear.

Last words they would ever hear.

When realizing their greatest fear.

Punched a hole through their reality.

Holes that cannot be filled or mended.

Holes that opened as lives were ended.

Holes that memories now slip through.

Hopes, and dreams, and wishes too.

Created on a day when a sky of brilliant blue,

Suddenly turned black.

Description

This poem is an expression of my thoughts and feelings from what I personally witnessed and experienced just a few blocks away from the Twin Towers on the morning of 9/11, a day I will never forget.
