"Day of Fire"

Cast of Characters 

Welles Crowther: Hero of 9/11. 24. Day trader at Sander O’Neil Partners; was at 16 volunteer with Nyack Hook & Ladder. He played lacrosse and hockey at Boston University with jersey number 19. Saved 10 – 20 people in South Tower. 

Phillipe Petit: Tightrope artist who walked between The Twin Towers in 1974 at 24. He appears in 2001 at his age at that time. Though alive, he appears in spirit form as Welles’ guide. 

Satan and demons in his mouth: These will not be named. 

Judith Wein: Worked at AON, 103rd floor. She found fire extinguisher and helped Welles douse some flames. 

Lin Yung: rolled body off her; Welles rescued. Donna Spera: Welles also rescued. Jim Brevery helped them down to 61.  

Chris Young: in elevator to test theory of ‘Free Fall.’ Doors opened, and walked out. 

Rick Rescorla: Head of security for The World Trade Center. He was there for the 1993 bombing. He used his megaphone (“funneled voice”) to warn people to ignore directives to go back to work, saving many lives. He sang God Bless America. He died. 

Baseline Employees: Jyoti Vyas (pregnant,) Henry D’Arti, Alfredo Guzman, Carl Boudakian, John Tabako, Jonathon Weinberg all in South Tower and found Stairway B. Thought water pouring down stairs, but was jet fuel.  

Lauren Smith: got through bottom open elevator, yet fell and got injured. 

Kelly Reher: Trapped in elevator, so opened hatch to die by inhalation, yet used briefcase to wedge open doors – lived. 

Pasquale Buzetti: so-called “9/11 Surfer,” who rode down slab of concrete to safety. 

Robert Small: Found large man exhausted; tried to get him to move down, but couldn’t. 

Peter Bitwinski: Helps friend in wheelchair, John Abruzzo, down. They live. 

Ed Beyea in wheelchair: Finds friend, Abe Zelmanowitz; they die. 

Brian Clark: Finds Stanley Pranmaith in rubble and digs through, encourages. They rub bloody wrists together to become ‘Blood Brothers.’ 

Father Mark (Mac) Hanna, Frank de Martini, Pablo Ortiz: Port Authority workers on 88th floor of North Tower. They rescued upwards of 50 workers from Metlife. 

Mo Lipson: Senior they find; Mac Hanna given job of escorting down. They live. 

Fire Chief of FDNY, Peter Gansi. 

Bill Feehan: Retired Commissioner, “The Father of FDNY,” known for speaking and Irish verse. Died in North Tower when debris came down on the plaza. 

Chief Pfeiffer of Engine 33, and brother Kevin Pfeiffer, who died. 

Danny Suhr, first firefighter to die (9:30.) 

Father Michael Judge, Chaplain of FDNY. Died when in North Tower by debris coming into lobby during South Tower’s collapse. 

Firefighters of Ladder 6: In North Tower and saw 

Josephine Harris not moving. They helped, and all survived even after collapse in a pocket. 

Featured in a History Channel documentary, “The Miracle of Stairway B.” 

Gideon and Jules Naudet: Two French filmmakers coincidentally shooting documentary about FDNY. Chief Pfeiffer jumped on Jules to save him. 

Chief Burns: Helped “Probie,” Tony Benatanos to site.  

Frank Bennett Reisman: Possibly tried to survive by shimmying down with his body wedged between exterior piers. He was an experience ‘Chimney Climber.’ Others followed him. 

George Willig: Made a 1977 climb up one tower with a device he invented that went into the window washing groove. He shimmied up in a different way. 

Michael Lomanaco: Head Chef at Windows on the World. He stopped in at the optometrists in the shops below to see whether it could take him earlier, which saved him. 

Frank Razzano: D.C. Lawyer who survived in the Marriott. He and others were in the intact part.  

Jeff Johnson: Firefighter who guided the Marriott group to follow his voice from their collapsed hallway and into a hole, which led to a reception area. Razzano later invited him to his daughter’s wedding.
