Throughout this week, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum is hosting diplomats, heads of state and other international visitors who are in New York for the 70th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, 9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels and former New York City Mayor and 9/11 Memorial Chairman Michael R. Bloomberg greeted German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the memorial, where she laid a wreath under the Survivor Tree. After paying her respects at the memorial, Chancellor Merkel visited the museum.

She was so moved by her visit that afterwards she announced she would fly the 9/11 Memorial flag at the German Chancellery, home of the German federal government.

Representatives from nearly 30 nations will visit the memorial and museum before the weeks end.
