    Statement of Work

I specialize in a form of art that represents industrial scenes and cityscapes through compelling composite constructions. My bas-reliefs are comprised of historical artifacts from diverse industries, accentuated by a background of metallic resin of my invention known as Metalar (TM).  The alchemy along with precise placement and composition, transforms materials such as farm implements, scientific and musical instruments, kitchen gadgets and machine parts into three-dimensional montages that engage the viewer in an historically significant celebration of America's rich and industrial legacy.

NEW YORK: 98.6 attempts to capture the spirit of New York City before September 11, although I started work on it well before that time (collecting artifacts).  The fact that the components were collected prior to the disaster seems to give it an added poignancy, and also in some strange way, helps make it an uplifting piece.  From the reaction of the crowds who have viewed it, this piece of art seems to elicit a feeling of gratitude along with nostalgia through the way that it captures the original World Trade Center skyline and its place in history.

As an artist, I am drawn to the spirit of the country's past with a desire to preserve a sense of what it once was.  Through my work, both representative and abstract, I seek to give voice to the past and memory to the future.

BOX 81748 Pittsburgh, PA 15217 Phone 412-421-8117 Cell 412-889-3485 hwayne@hollywayne.com www.hollywayne.com CAREER OBJECTIVE: To create innovative and enduring works of art that reveal new perspectives on history, industry, and culture. "Through my art I strive to give voice to the past & memory to the future." SYNOPSIS: I began my career as a professional interior designer. At the request of several clients, I created pieces of art to complement the design work that I was doing for them. In 1987, while experimenting with chemical applications, I invented Metalar(TM), the metallic resin medium that I now use in virtually all of my work. Today, I specialize in a unique form of art through which I create composite representations of industrial scenes and cityscapes, as well as other more abstract pieces. These are constructed from historical artifacts representing diverse industries, and embedded in a background of Metalar. My larger pieces typically are commissioned by corporate sponsors and individual collectors, who display my art to bring to life perspectives on their industry, region, or historical roots. My smaller pieces tend to be more abstract, appealing to a broad audience because of their intrinsically interesting compositions of historical elements. I have also used Metalar with dramatic effect as a decorative medium for visual merchandising and store display for clients such as Chrysler Corporation and Bloomingdale’s department store in New York City.
