"A summary of my artistic practice:
I look out and in to paint the space in between."
The tragedy of September Eleventh instantly shocked, terrified, and deeply pained Americans and the world. That day and those that unfolded after created empathy for all involved that is beyond words. I respond to the world by painting and so of course this is the subject that had to be. I want these paintings to function like poetry and prayer, to be objects for spiritual reflection and experience. Hope is present, but the images have a toughness, backbone. Struggle, pain, and redemption are interwoven. This intense theme is the unifying factor in everything I do, especially in the 9/11 works. I strive for a presence that makes the pictures more than pictures.
