The Day That Was!
That morning signaled an air of tranquility,
The sky was as blue, as the bluest sea;
I alighted from the train to see
That giant tower rocked quite mightily!
I saw it, I stood shuddered, and shocked!
I yelled the names of my peers;
I prayed for all, as my body rocked,
My eyes were both cluttered with tears.
I stood frozen, I could not move;
Others came swiftly to my aid;
My dreams – all three – would to me prove
That a kind of history was soon to be made.
I watched, as one structure burst into flame,
I screamed in horror, as that tower fold,
I felt very sick, and really lame,
I tried to run, my feet were stiffly cold.
Suddenly, my nerves became revived,
When the debris got scattered on me;
I thanked God for being alive,
I ran as fast as could be!
From a distance, I saw that giant gave way;
I prayed, for my loved ones seemed gone!
Those towers were no longer the talk of the day;
I cried aloud, like the day I was born!
