Artist's Statement
During and after the attacks of 9/11 on our country and it's people, I felt a great responsibility as an American Artist to document the events of 9/11. When our president said we all have to go on and continue as Americans, I went to work immediately. My work is not a political statement but a statement on humanity and how this country pulls together at it's time of need. Racial barriers gone if only for a moment. We saw citizens helping each other as they ran through the street of New York running to safety. When the ash fell and covered faces, you only saw the face of humanity, as history unfolded before us. I experienced a unity in our country I shall never forget. Every community in our nation hung the American flag from porch to porch. We pulled together as one, committed to the ideals which our fore fathers set before us. I remember my Aunt saying "Welcome to my Pearl Harbor". We have changed much as a nation from the events of 9/11, hopefully with a greater understanding of people, different cultures, and religion, even when it goes wrong. God bless the men and women of our armed forces. They defend and protect our great nation every day, and fight for our freedom and the freedom of others.
