When we look at a building in ruin, we can only guess at the lives of the people who lived or worked there.
Who would know looking at the remnants of this parking garage that it was once part of one of the highest man-made structures on earth?
Both structures pictured here are symbols of tragedy and hope.
Across the street from the garage is a building that sustained serious damage but is undergoing reconstruction. From excruciating loss, there is remewal and rebirth.
A walk around this area reveals it as Hallowed Ground. There is a sense of the 2700 souls who died at the World Trade Center. This site is venerated as a memorial to their lives.
A native New Yorker, I was seduced by San Francisco and moved out west several years ago. Reflected in my photography is an interest in the urban landscape and abstract themes.
An early love of photography was encouraged by my father's gift of a 35mm camera. Soon friends and family were requesting copies of my work. Today my work is sold through galleries and has been auctioned for the benefit of the Mexican Museum, Visual Aid, ArtSpan, and other charities.
I agree with Paul Strand who said "An artist's world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where he lives or a few feet away. It is always on his doorstep." It is not necessary to travel far to find interesting subjects. I enjoy shooting endearingly shabby and decrepit buildings that are full of history, as well as, simple scenes that can be transformed into abstract compositions by focusing on color, texture, and shape to draw the viewer in. I look for the beauty that surrounds us in everyday places and objects.
