Artist Statement
My work tends to be an exploration of opposing forces. A balancing act if will between such binary oppositions as push/pull of presence/absence as expressed by the deconstructivist writings of the French philosopher Jacques Derrida. My most recent exploration into these opposing forces is that of good/evil and the dilemmas that one can face in relation to these two opposing forces. These dilemmas can create a labyrinth of choices causing one to truly examine the window through which they are presently viewing the world. In the development of my work I have found inspiration in the work of a number of artists. Artists such as Ida Applebroog, David Salle and Jasper Johns for how they often compartmentalize the space of their work. Nancy Grossman with her bound erotic figures. I work primarily with the medium of printmaking. The form of printmaking I have the most affinity with is monotype/monoprint, the painterly printmaking. This form of printmaking lends itself very well to my form of expression. The manner in which I use this method of printmaking allows me to work in collage and to build layers of images; layering has become crucial part to my work. It also has opened up my work to incorporate elements of low relief as well as constructions that look to the work of Joseph Cornell. My work does speak to the saying the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Individually the part might be interesting vignettes but together they create a solid work of art.

PERSONAL
Thirty plus years experience of promoting and fostering the education of children through the visual arts in the public schools. In those thirty years I have also brought my skills and knowledge to the university level as a graduate assistant and as an Assistant Professor of Art. At the university level I instructed students in a variety of foundation courses. During my career I have taught students that have come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. The desire to continually enhance my personal growth as an artist has always been important to me.
