My name is Clare Gibson, and in my spare time, I am a member of my Church's Poetry Group, and we create 2 booklets every year, and ask for donations, the proceeds of which go to a local homeless charity.
In early December 2012, I visited the 9/11 Memorial Gardens, and the enormity of the horror but the wonderful humanity of the rescue workers, has left an irrevokable impression on me. On returning home to England, I penned the attached poem in tribute to the 343 Firemen who lost their lives. It was only recently, that a friend of mine, suggested that I send the poem to the appropriate body in New York, in the hope that the New York Fire Brigade could read my tribute to them and their past colleagues.
I contacted the 911 Memorial Organisation, who kindly asked me to submit my poem to this website, where it will reach the right and wider audience. I have updated the poem to reflect the fact that we are now in 2014.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read a poem, which sadly, should never have had to be written, but which hopefully shows the awesome humanity and beauty of these 343.
With kind regards
Clare Gibson
