    Looking Up From Ground Zero

Gazing up from way down low. All the way down here, down at Ground Zero.

Some look up to loved ones, others to heroes.

Some look up to history, and yet others to twin light shows.

High above the towers those lights shine tall. They shine far greater than the world's most destructive fall.

A great reminder for the world to see, that we will continue to stand and rise above to victory.

Although we will never truly understand what many endured that tragic day, those lights that shine give us a chance to say:

We carry you on our backs with the memories we hold, and your memory goes on with each name our memorial holds.

So now we honor, we respect, we take our time and read each name slow.

For it is our duty to Never Forget what happened at Ground Zero.

    Resume

Although I was too young to remember this tragic and historical event at the time, I have my parents to thank for educating me over the years, and instilling the importance of paying my respects to those who lost their lives the day of 9/11. In honor of those who innocently lost their lives, as well as those who gave their lives in rescue attempts, I felt lead to write and submit a poem. I hope it reaches the hearts of many and reflects the importance for all of us to be aware and pay our respects, even those of us who may have been to young to understand at the time.
