    Statement of Work

    9 /11          By Suzanne Mogavero

In Staten Island, we built our home,

With two small children, I wasn’t alone.

    A normal morning, routines underway,

The news quietly buzzing, like every other day.

A plane hit the tower - I froze in place,

Shock filled my heart, fear on my face.

I reached for the phone, to call Artie's name,

But there was no answer, no voice that came.

My heart raced faster, pounding with dread,

Then the second tower was struck ahead.

Tears filled my eyes, fear took its hold,

I tried again, but the line was cold.

Like many others, glued to the screen,

Time stopped moving, like a terrible dream.

    I'll never forget September’s skies,

One of the scariest days of my life.

But I was one of the lucky ones, it's true,

My husband came home, and we made it through.

God bless the fallen, and those who still fight,

Protecting our freedom, day and night.

I remember the pain, the fear, the cries,

But I also recall how we all did rise.

New York, I’ll love you, forever so strong,

Prayers for the families who’ve lost loved ones long.

In unity, healing, we’ll stand side by side,

With gratitude deep and hearts open wide.

    Resume

As a native New Yorker living in Staten Island at the time with my husband and two young children on September 11, 2001.  Like so many others, my life was forever touched by the events of that tragic day. Through writing, I honor the memories of those lost and express enduring love and resilience for New York City.  I will never forget!
