“Remember Me” is an original poem I wrote on September 11, 2001. It portrays a woman lying on the ground amid the confusion and unfamiliar sounds surrounding her. As she quietly faces what is happening, she remembers her husband and the love they shared. She sees fields of grain while hearing the sounds around her. As her pain begins to fade, she hears the swishing of angel wings. Although the poem describes hearing the angel wings, I also envisioned her seeing them as she peacefully passes from this life. In those final moments, she finds peace in knowing that she will see her husband again in Heaven one day.

Remember Me

Fields of grain, fields of pain.

Do you ever wonder where you stand?

Here alone in the shadows, a never-ending song.

I hear the bellows.  The sounds of unfamiliar people in a crowd.

Fields of grain, mountains of pain.

Alone in deaths shadows, waiting for the moment.

Fear of people, fear of pain, hold me baby in the rain.

Here alone, a never-ending song, remember me

when I was there with you

In the dark of the night we were true.

In the days light I loved you.

I hear the bellows and the sounds

of unfamiliar people in a crowd.

I see fields of grain, I feel so much pain.

Remember me baby when I was, there with you.

Remember I love you.

I hear swishing of angel wings.

I see fields of grain, but feel no more pain.

Keep your head up high, and try not to cry.

And in the end, I’ll see you again.
