Statement of Work

As an American artist born in India of French and American parents, I have traversed cultures and geography, and the abiding theme of my work is how people understand events and ideas within the context of place -- geographic, cultural, or historic.

        Statement of Work

I lost my 31 year old brother, Brent Woodall, on September 11, 2001. It has since been a long, sobering odyssey of prayer and hope...seeking, finding, and mourning... fighting and resentment...tolerance and love...birth and death.

This platter was created in response to the terrorism attacks of 9/11. The piece helped me deal with the horrific events that occurred on that day.

I find colors to be fascinating. We are surrounded by colors, vibrant, muted, thousands and thousands of shades and hues. Some contrasting and others complimenting, but always drawing our attention in different ways.

The project began with great excitement and trepidation. This group of students was around the age of three on September 11, 2001. We all knew someone who had died in the attacks.

What is hiding in the message of that deadly fall of this man? What it’s meaning for us, the silences of those anonymous victims? What are they telling us? And why could we be quiet about it? We don’t forget seeing the horrific death-dealing “pantomime” live worldwide! Here, I try and dare to give to that silence, a voice. A voice to the wounded doves
