Artist Statement

When I was asked to create an artwork based on 9/11 for a show that was to travel around the world, what transpired was much more than a portrait of the World Trade Center.

I wrote Candles and Flags to make sense of the tragedy of 9-11.

I have created two paintings a week after Sept 11. They are entitled "010911 III" and "010911 IV". The original paintings measured 30 inches by 30 inches.

As a UK resident, watching the events of 9/11, I felt compelled to do something that would show my support to the people of America.

We are four film students from Germany. Last year we made a stop-motion
film about the attacks of 9/11. The main story evolves around an accidential meeting between a businessman on his way to work and a kid the morning of the attacks.

I am an artist working in Brooklyn, NY. I work predominantly in sculpture and collage. Most of my work is made with - or includes - material I pick up off of the streets in Brooklyn and elsewhere.

Often my poetry is a response to events...the ordinary and daily...and in this case...those that defy traditional explanation. Art in all forms is cathartic.
