«New York and the Pear Tree» update 2021
The Survivor Tree’s story of renewal, rebirth, resilience and hope has been inspiring me for several years now.

My painting series is titled "People Waves." The work represents my expression of the events of 9/11. My first glimpse of the tragedy that unfolded that morning was turning to the television to see "debris" flailing wildly.

I am a rug hooker and at the time, this was my way of facing this act. It shows, that the flag is standing proud under any conditions.

The Lexeme Series: Remembering 9/11

I’m Barbara Barron, a retired photo-journalist. I lived a mile away from the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center.

Over the years, I have had a deep and abiding interest in the personal and cultural expression of memory, it is at the core of my work.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

I love your country and your people and education.

In 2001 I was awarded a residency through LMCC at the World Trade Center to paint the vista from the 92nd floor. On the morning of 9/11 I stopped off to vote on my way to my studio in the North Tower. My life was spared but not my work.

New York was a place that I would visit during family vacations to see relatives. My mom grew up in Washington Heights. There is special meaning to me from this City. The attacks of 9/11 caused a lot of grief, but did bring the country together.
