    Statement of Work

My painting series is titled "People Waves." The work represents my expression of the events of 9/11. My first glimpse of the tragedy that unfolded that morning was turning to the television to see "debris" flailing wildly. The realization that I was witness to a jumper collapsed my core. Everything that I knew became unknown in a split moment. Then others jumped. Later, news outlets would release still images of "The Jumpers." Some holding hands, some falling in pose and some looking skyward afraid to face the ground. One falling with grace, eyes wide seemingly looking for a final moment of human contact. Aware.

We are all part of this, wrapped up in something bigger than just ourselves. We develop relationships with those closest to us in the wave. Some fight the flow while others enjoy the ride. But eventually we all reach the crest and are forced to face our own mortality. Will we fall twisting and turning, looking skyward for answers, never sure of when or who we will land on? Or will we fall with grace, facing our fate head-on, living until the very end? Aware.
