PREFACE

In 2002 I was asked by a producer for CBC radio (the largest National radio station in Canada) to create a 2 minute sound piece, depicting what the events of September 11th sounded like to me.

"A summary of my artistic practice:
I look out and in to paint the space in between."

I began working on "Angel Azrael" soon after the events of 9/11 and as I expanded, so did the vision and the message in this painting. I completed her over the course of 12 years. The foreground of this work is colored pencil on vellum.

This series of works are a search by me for the meaning of life and an effort to try and see beyond this life to what may lie beyond in the next stage of this amazing journey which we are all taking, and which is full of mystery and spiritual wonders.<

While I personally did not suffer a loss my heart was crushed by what happened on 9/11. I heard so many horror stories! I was in New York then and I saw and felt the devastation.

This unfinished sculpture by Ed McEnaney was initially inspired by his twenty plus years as a volunteer fireman in Nassau County. He calls it his “Field of Dreams” project.

In the days after the 9-11 attack,the one thread that that was woven from one report to the next, were the words "As the people were running from the towers, the Firefighters were going in, as people were running down the stairs,the Fire fighters

In the days and months following the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, artist Marion McGrath witnessed the "faces of courage" among uniformed rescue workers, law enforcement personnel and firefighters.

Rachard was drawn to this tragedy. He was overwhelmed with a sense that he could represent the images that were so prevalent in the news after 9/11. He drew the structures and vehicles in the names of those who perished this day.

The sculpture is titled 8:47 9/11. It was created in 2006. It is made from steel and is finished in the natural color of steel.
