As construction continues for the 9/11 Memorial Glade, the tribute for all who are suffering or have died from 9/11-related illnesses, stonemasons in Vermont have begun shaping the six monoliths that will flank the tribute path on the 9/11 Memorial.
One of the monoliths, weighing between 15 and 17.5 tons, was nearly complete as of last week at the Rock of Ages granite manufacturing company in Barre, Vt. Steel salvaged from the original World Trade Center will also be incorporated into the stone structures.
The Associated Press traveled to Barre to document the manufacture of the monoliths. To read more and to watch a video about the making of these granite elements, click here.
