Last night, the 9/11 Memorial Museum hosted a program with guest speaker Zalmay Khalilzad, a former ambassador to the United Nations, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Khalilzad was instrumental in shaping foreign policy during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and helped create the constitutions in the two war-torn countries.
While speaking at the 9/11 Memorial Museum, Khalilzad stressed the importance of diplomacy and nation-building.
“We came to the right policy of helping Afghans build state institutions, so we don’t have to police that territory forever,” Khalilzad said.
Watch a video of Khalilzad answering an audience question about how to achieve peace in the Middle East, and what America’s role might be in that process.
