Friday marks the 23rd anniversary of the first attack on the World Trade Center that killed six people. An interactive web timeline features artifacts, oral histories, and archival media of the Feb. 26, 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.
Some of featured artifacts in the timeline are not currently on display, including a Port Authority Police Department officer’s handwritten note tracking the helicopter rescue efforts, photos of visiting school children who were trapped in an elevator, and the fragment of the van that was used to carry 1,200 pounds of explosives.
The timeline provides a comprehensive look at the history starting with the dedication of the WTC. The timeline moves on to trace the development of terrorist networks and extends through to present day gestures of commemoration.
A moment of silence will be held Friday at 12:18 p.m. on the 9/11 Memorial in honor of John DiGiovanni, Robert Kirkpatrick, Stephen A. Knapp, William Macko, Wilfredo Mercado, and Monica Rodriguez Smith and her unborn child.
