Join us this summer for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s second annual Institute for Educators. Collaborate with Museum staff, leading experts in the field of 9/11-related study, and a cohort of dedicated education colleagues during this week-long summer program in New York City.

About the Program

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum Institute for Educators offers a unique, behind-the-scenes look into the Museum's content and collections. Participants will receive classroom-ready strategies to discuss 9/11 with students, collaborate with Museum staff, experts, and fellow educators to discuss how to engage with difficult content, and learn how to use artifacts and primary sources to explore the themes and issues raised by the attacks. 

Content sessions will be facilitated by Education staff from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and other experts in fields of 9/11-related study. At the conclusion, participants will develop their own unique professional development session plan to present to colleagues. 

Benefits

  • A $750 stipend distributed in two halves. The first half will be distributed at the beginning of the program; the second half upon successful completion of the requirements listed below.

  • Networking with a cohort of dedicated teachers who are equally committed to the teaching of 9/11 and other challenging 9/11-related content.
  • Breakfast in the 9/11 Memorial & Museum Café and catered lunch each day.
  • Mentorship from 9/11 Memorial Museum Education staff with extensive professional development and teaching experience.
  • New York State teachers are eligible for CTLE.

Expectations

  • Submit a professional development workshop plan at the completion of the institute.
  • Organize, plan, and lead at least one professional development session focused on bringing 9/11 Memorial & Museum education resources into the classroom for at least 30 teachers through a local, state, or national meeting.
  • Provide feedback on 9/11 Memorial & Museum resources and individual professional development session through survey data.
  • Make your own travel arrangements – the 9/11 Memorial Museum is not responsible for travel arrangements or accommodations. Participants will receive a stipend (as outlined above) designed to help offset costs.
