Courts Weigh Port Authority’s Responsibility

In the years following the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, more than 400 individuals sue the Port Authority for failing to protect the World Trade Center—most notably, by not closing the parking garage to the public before the bombing occurred in February 1993. A jury in New York State Supreme Court finds for the plaintiffs in 2005, a decision that is upheld in 2008. The New York State Court of Appeals ultimately overturns the ruling in 2011.
