Description

Liberation, 1999 – 2001, a conceptually driven response to our then-current political crisis in the US after 9/11. Liberation included three casts of my arms reaching upward, meant to suggest freedom from oppression and limitations, from women’s liberation to wider human rights issues. It grew out of the suffering and grief that was all around us, not only in NY, but globally, as the financial markets were brought to a halt. From the idea of body parts emerging from the rubble to people rallying together, the arms have a multiplicity of meanings.
